Following certain commercial vehicles closer than 300 feet (does not apply during overtaking/passing, on multi-lane roads, or in business/residential districts)

Large vehicles driven in caravan on open highway must leave at least 100 feet between them

May not overtake/pass vehicle moving less than 20 mph on a grade unless can pass at least 10 mph faster and complete within 1/4 mile

Failing to slow and change lanes when approaching authorized emergency vehicle or work zone

Maximum speed limit of 55 mph for trucks/truck tractors with 3+ axles, vehicles pulling another vehicle, school buses transporting pupils, farm labor vehicles transporting passengers, vehicles transporting explosives, and trailer buses

Speeding more than 10 mph but not more than 15 mph over the limit in a work zone.

Operator of truck 10,000+ lbs, truck-tractor, or combination shall not exceed 35 mph during periods of enforced reduced loadings.

Entering or passing through a work zone where a lane has been closed, shall not exceed 45 mph unless a different limit is set.

Violating a school zone speed limit; may be reduced up to 20 mph below normal posted limit but not less than 25 mph.

Upon approaching a stationary authorized emergency vehicle with flashing lights, driver must move over 1 lane (or 2 vehicle widths) and reduce speed by at least 10 mph below posted limit. Causing injury or death is a felony.

Same move-over and 10 mph slowdown duty applies to stationary solid waste collection, utility service, or road maintenance vehicles displaying amber lights.

Driver must stop 15-50 feet from nearest rail when signal device active, gate lowered, flagman signaling, train within ~1,500 ft sounding signal, or train plainly visible and in hazardous proximity. Also prohibits driving through/around/under crossing gate.

Driver of motor vehicle transporting 16+ passengers, carrying passengers for hire, or required to be placarded under 49 CFR 100-180 must activate hazard lights and stop 15-50 feet from nearest rail before crossing. Must not shift gears while crossing.

Michigan adopts 49 CFR 392.10 and 392.11. CMV driver must obey police direction at crossings; must not cross without sufficient undercarriage clearance; must not cross unless able to clear without stopping.

Operator of motor vehicle shall not follow another more closely than is reasonable and prudent. Trucks/vehicles over 5,000 lbs outside city/village limits must maintain 500 feet between like vehicles (exception for platoons).

Failure to drive within a single lane or improper lane changes on multi-lane roadway.

Speeding more than 15 mph over the limit in a work zone.

A person shall not operate a CMV with alcohol content 0.015 grams or more per 100 mL blood, 210 L breath, or 67 mL urine. Out-of-service order for 24 hours. Operating in violation of out-of-service order is a misdemeanor.

A person shall not operate a CMV in this state in violation of an out-of-service order. Suspension of CDL group designations required.

Operating truck 10,000+ lbs or combination exceeding 35 mph during reduced loadings enforcement period.

Causing injury or death to any person in a work zone.

Failure to slow to 10 mph below the posted speed limit and move over a lane for a stopped authorized emergency vehicle.

Failure to move over for solid waste haulers, utility service vehicles, and road maintenance vehicles

Failing to stop at least 20 feet from a school bus with red overhead lights flashing

Operating a vehicle while intoxicated (alcohol content 0.08+, under the influence, or with controlled substance); enhanced for 0.17+ (high BAC).

Operating a vehicle while ability is visibly impaired due to alcohol, controlled substance, or other intoxicating substance.

A person who commits a moving violation while operating a vehicle upon a highway or other place open to the general public that was the proximate cause of the death of another person.

A person who commits a moving violation while operating a vehicle that causes serious impairment of a body function to another person.

Driver willfully fails to obey signal of police or conservation officer to stop by increasing speed, extinguishing lights, or attempting to flee or elude.

Fleeing and eluding resulting in a collision/accident, occurring in a 35 mph or less area, or with a prior conviction.

Fleeing and eluding resulting in serious injury or with prior fleeing/eluding convictions.

Fleeing and eluding resulting in the death of another individual.

Operator of a motor vehicle holds or uses a mobile electronic device while driving.

Operator of a commercial motor vehicle or school bus holds or uses a mobile electronic device.

Driver fails to stop at scene of accident resulting in serious impairment of body function or death.

Driver fails to stop at scene of accident resulting in injury to any person.
